AS NATION GEARS UP FOR SPRING BREEDING SEASON

SNYP is participating in the national Spay Day USA program by offering special discount spay/neuter certificates during their February Prevent A Litter month long campaign. SNYP brings the nationwide campaign home to the Rogue Valley with their annual spring Prevent A Litter Campaign.

The special spay/neuter certificates will be available to the public during the month of February for:

Beginning February 1st, the special spay/neuter certificates can be purchased at Pet Country, all Medford Mini Pet Marts, Grants Pass Mini Pet Mart on 6th Street, Southern Oregon Humane Society, Medford and Ashland Grange CO-OPs, Jackson County Animal Care and Control, or by calling SNYP directly at 858-3325. The special discount spay/neuter certificates are redeemable at any of the many participating veterinary offices listed on the back of each certificate.

SNYP schedules their campaigns to coincide with the heavy breeding seasons and with national campaigns such as the Doris Day Animal Foundation's, Spay Day USA program. "Animal welfare organizations across the country are gearing up to help reduce the damage done during the massive spring breeding season," states Sally Mackler, SNYP's Board President.

Nationwide shelter workers are forced to kill a homeless animal every 7 seconds. Five million companion animals are euthanized yearly simply because they are born unwanted. Millions more are abandoned to fend for themselves. Taxpayers carry the cost of picking up, housing and eventually killing shelter animals for as much as $176 per animal in some areas. That's why animal welfare groups across the nation join together to provide spring spay/neuter programs throughout the U.S.

By spaying or neutering companion animals we can end these unwanted births, reduce the needless suffering that homeless animals endure, and save taxpayers money at the same time.

Last year, more than 2000 animals were altered in Jackson County through SNYP's special campaigns and assistance programs. In addition, thousands more pet owners were referred to existing veterinary spay/neuter services through SNYP's referral service. These surgeries prevented many thousands of animals from burdening our shelter system, or suffering abandonment and death.

SNYP is an all-volunteer, non-profit referral and assistance organization providing low cost spay/neuter programs in the Rogue Valley. Funds for SNYP's special programs are raised entirely through donations and fund-raising campaigns. If you would like more information on the Spring Prevent A Litter 2007 Campaign or on other SNYP programs, please call 858-3325.
